About

Welcome to Lovely Girl by Mellie! I hope you find something that speaks to you. Everything in this store was lovingly handmade by me: Mellie.

I've always been very creative and enjoyed projects and working with my hands. In fact, I was a dental hygienist in my professional life. That's where I learned how to work in small tight spaces! I managed to acquire hand and finger dexterity with a light but solid and intentional touch, although, some might say otherwise...lol.

Growing up I learned how to be creative with furniture restoration which I got from my mom.  She loved painting furniture and then antique washing or distressing it.I remember doing my bedroom with her. She was always changing things around at home. I learned some minor sewing from her and then took a pattern class. Nothing really came of it. Later on as an adult, I went on to sew complex curtain designs. I was inspired by a dear friend who got me started.

I was always curious and needed to be making and creating things. My dad was a baker and I wanted to learn how to bake from scratch. I experimented with so many different recipes and enjoyed working in his bakery assisting him. Again, always using my hands!

Photography was next! I took some classes and started taking pictures! That wasn't enough though! I needed to develop them too so I set up a dark room and started being creative with my final products.

I needed a new project. Something fresh and creative. That's when a gift from my niece Noelle showed up in the mail. It was a small stretchy bracelet that said AUNT MEL! It was so thoughtful and I absolutely adored it! After taking a closer look I realized that it said "ANUT MEL".  I still have it! It sparked a new interest in me!  I ordered a bunch of new sparkly beads and elastic and a new adventure started.

It was during Covid that I had a lot of time on my hands so I also decided to take out my sewing machine and make facial masks for family and friends. We were still not able to go out so I mailed them to everyone. These were funky cloth masks with pipe cleaners sewn in to contour to your nose! So cute!

OK, so now what? I dove into jewelry even deeper. I learned new techniques and spent full days creating. It was a great outlet from the stress of Covid and home confinement. The more I created the more I wanted to create! I constantly challenged myself and still do! It has become a passion for me. I love when others enjoy my pieces. If you have read til the end... thank you!  I hope you enjoy browsing my site! Maybe you will find something that speaks to you!
